VS Friends Helping Friends, a not-for-profit charity organization registered with the Illinois Secretary of State,  was created by a group of Von Steuben High School alumni who wanted to offer assistance to fellow alumni in financial crisis due to injury or illness.

The idea for the foundation came about when some of us learned of a graduate from the class of 1978 who was battling metastatic breast cancer. The disease prevented her from working. Compounded with other factors over time, she and her husband were unable to provide some bare essentials for their family. A small group of Von alumni got together and raised funds through donations and selling chocolate bars, and were able to provide significant help to this friend and alumnus.

Building on the support and encouragement we received in raising these funds, we have now broadened our scope to offer financial assistance to other Von Steuben alumni and their families who are in crisis due to serious medical illness and related financial need.
